In what has become an annual tradition, staff of the Embassy of The Republic of The Gambia in Washington D.C. led by His Excellency Ambassador Momodou Lamin Bah, on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 joined the Gambian community in Silver Spring, Maryland, for the Eid al Adha prayer.
Ambassador Bah was warmly received by elders of the community and was given the opportunity to address the gathering. In his abridged remarks delivered shortly before the prayer, the Ambassador conveyed best wishes and prayers for peace and prosperity from His Excellency President Adama Barrow and the First family to the entire Gambian diaspora community on the occasion of Eid al Adha.
He encouraged the community to remain law-abiding residents in the United States while continuing to contribute meaningfully to the development of The Gambia.
He also used the opportunity to remind members of the Gambian community particularly those with outstanding child support arrears to ensure timely repayment of their debts in order to avoid the revocation of their U.S. passports. He noted that this matter had recently been brought to the attention of the Embassy and he deemed it important to share the information to prevent any hardship for community members.
As is customary, the Embassy made a donation to the Association (Muslim Association of North America) which was presented by the Deputy Head of Mission, Gen. (Rtd.) Yakuba A. Drammeh.
