Washington, D.C., September 15, 2025 — The African Group 1 Constituency of the World Bank convened a high-level Ambassadors’ Luncheon on Monday bringing together diplomatic representatives and development partners to discuss Africa’s strategic priorities in poverty reduction, climate resilience, and energy access.
His Excellency Ambassador Momodou Lamin Bah joined fellow Ambassadors and senior officials for the event, which featured opening remarks by Dr. Zarau Kibwe, Executive Director for the Constituency. The luncheon spotlighted two flagship initiatives: the rollout of IDA21, the World Bank’s latest financing round aimed at accelerating development outcomes across low-income countries, and Mission 300 for Africa, an ambitious program to connect 300 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa to sustainable energy solutions.
A panel discussion titled Africa’s Development Partnerships explored the evolving landscape of international aid, infrastructure investment, and energy access. Distinguished panelists included H.E. Elsie S. Kanza, Ambassador of Tanzania to the United States; Mr. Guangzhe Chen, Vice President for Infrastructure at the World Bank; and Mr. James Heimbach, Vice President for External and Corporate Relations.
The event underscored the critical role of collaborative partnerships between African governments, international financial institutions, and the private sector in driving inclusive economic growth and improving livelihoods across the continent.
